Yunus Social Business Kenya (YSB Kenya) is part of Yunus Social Business Global Initiatives, founded in 2011 by Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus, Saskia Bruysten and Sophie Eisenmann to expand the success of social business from Bangladesh around the world.
Yunus Social Business Kenya was envisioned to harness the potential of social businesses in Kenya. We are committed to financing and supporting businesses that solve human problems. We launched in March 2018 with three Kenyan partners; Bharat Doshi, Nilesh Doshi and Vinay Sanghrajka with the backing of group of esteemed patrons.
Our Philanthropic Venture Funds grow local social businesses that provide employment, education, healthcare, clean water and clean energy to over 3 million people in East Africa, Latin America & India. We turn donations into investments in social businesses, which we reinvest over and over again, multiplying the impact each time. Our long-term, patient loans and hands-on growth support are delivered by our team of local professionals, allowing our social businesses to flourish.
What We Do
YSB Kenya provides patient finance and business support to social businesses. We identify social businesses of merit and help them grow and scale their social impact.
Investing in a social business can be a tough challenge, that’s why our core mission is to unlock flexible capital and provide long-term financing that enables social businesses to flourish.
We provide patient capital, tailored to the needs of the social business – in the form of flexible loans, with low-interest rates.
Financing solutions provided are in the range between 10 million and 30 million KSh.
Financing a social business is just the beginning of a long-term relationship. To achieve growth, sustainability, and long-term social impact, we support our portfolio companies over the lifetime of an investment. Through partnerships with several leading organizations, we’re able to offer social businesses a range of services either at cost or pro-bono.
“One of the great powers of social business is it brings the advantages of free market competition into the world of social improvement”
