Investing for a better world

Who we are

Yunus Social Business Kenya (YSB Kenya) is part of Yunus Social Business Global Initiatives, founded in 2011 by Saskia Bruysten, Sophie Eisenmann and Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus to expand the success of social business from Bangladesh around the world.

Our Philanthropic Venture Funds grow local social businesses that provide employment, education, healthcare, clean water and clean energy to over 3 million people in East Africa, Latin America & India. We turn donations into investments in social businesses, which we reinvest over and over again, multiplying the impact each time. Our long-term, patient loans and hands-on growth support are delivered by our team of local professionals, allowing our social businesses to flourish.

Yunus Social Business Kenya was envisioned to harness the potential of social businesses in Kenya. We are committed to financing and supporting businesses that solve human problems.

What we do

Together with YSB Global and partners, we bring technical experience and global knowledge required to run scalable and financially sustainable businesses, while centering their social ambitions.

YSB Kenya support companies go on to realize their full potential, achieving social innovation, job creation and meaningful development in the communities they cater to.

“Entrepreneurs will set up social business not to achieve limited personal gain but to pursue specific social goals” – Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus

How it works

YSB Kenya provides patient finance and business support to social businesses. We identify social businesses of merit and help them grow and scale their social impact.

Financing

Financing a social business can be a tough challenge, that’s why our core mission is to unlock flexible capital and provide long-term financing that enables social businesses to flourish.

We provide patient capital, tailored to the needs of the social business – in the form of debt, equity, convertible equity or preference capital.

Financing: Financing solutions provided are in the range between 10 million and 30 million KSh.

Business Support

Financing a social business is just the beginning of a long-term relationship. To achieve growth, sustainability, and long-term social impact, we support our portfolio companies over the life of investment. Through partnerships with several leading organizations, we’re able to offer social businesses a range of services either at cost or pro-bono.

“One of the great powers of social business is it brings the advantages of free market competition into the world of social improvement” – Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus.
